RHEA has been created by Alain Peeters (Master and PhD in agronomy), professor at the University of Louvain (1990-2007). He led (i) a team of research-development (50 people), (ii) soil, water, forage, feed and food analysis laboratories, (iii) an agricultural extension service. He played a determining role in the transposition in Wallonia of European environment and agriculture legislations: the agri-environment measures, the nitrate directive and the Natura 2000 programme. He played and is still playing an active role in several international research associations (IGC, FAO, CIHEAM). He collaborated with several ministerial Cabinets in charge of agriculture and environment in Belgium. He carries out consultancy missions for several international organisations in Africa and East Europe since 1981.
